Atsushi Hara wins the 2006 Buggy Thailand Party!

RC superstar, Atsushi Hara of Japan, has been proving that he is pretty gifted when it comes to controlling all RC cars, not just Electric circuit cars, having followed up his open final placing at the recent Japanese 1/8th off road Nationals, by TQ’ing and winning the 2006 Buggy Party Final held in Thailand. In the end it was easy for the Hot Bodies racer who took the win in the hour long final by over 5 laps ahead of 2nd placed local racer Yuthana D. driving a HoBao. Fellow Thai racer Charlee was 3rd for Mugen, 2 laps further back.

OK this is not the latest news. It already been published elsewhere earlier. i think around 3rd November. But it just Like The Real Thing!

Let me quote from Tabushi(rctech) about this race event.

The rc club where this track its located its a big RC facility with onroad track (1/10 nitro and electric sedan), rc airplanes, artificial lagoon for rc boat and yatching, U-Control circle, sailplane spot and rc heli special spot.

The offroad track, behind the drivers tower, have permanent tables for 35 pilots (the club have about 20 prmanent offroad drivers), each table with 3 x 220v entries (in my country, 220v its the standard) and a permanent air compressor ...

In this track will be held the southamerican championship with pilots from argentina, brazil, chile of course, venezuela, uruguay, peru, colombia, mexico and couple of drivers from USA, Dominican Republic and Italia so the club will put i think 3 more air compressors and plastic tables and chairs + covering for all the people we hope to have in March 22th to 25th 2007.

Kenji won the Japan National with his MBX5R buggy. During qualifying, Kenji was no 4th. TQ guy is Kazuya with his WC Kyosho.

Are you RC Offroad Hardcore?

Are you a nitro rc offroad hardcore if you been long time in the buggy race? Good question. Or do you have to own truggy to claim that you are a nitro rc hardcore? I dont know.
For me, totally different ... i started with monster truck... HPI savage. we race with this high CG truck and its really fun. we were spoilt by GS SUT when they join us in a local race. we sometimes if not always, lose to this new kit in town. we decided to race 2gether becoz of small group but with two different class=trophies. so, even if im 2nd on the overall truck race, im actually 1st in the monster truck class.

anyway, from there, i decided to challenge the low slung SUT with a real truggy X1CRT. then, its a different story all together. and just for the heck of not wanting to miss any offroad action, i bought the buggy. Now i can join the so-called offroad elite. I GOT ALL 3 OFFROAD VEHICLES. now we're talking.

Am i a real hardcore on offroad then? I got all three(3) nitro offroad vehicle? i dont know. am i qualified? probably i shud get the XUT, Mugen truggy, CEN Matrix TR, and even the 18th scale or the 16th scale then i can claim im a real offroad hardcore. Hahahaha. What say u?

Anyone cant denies that the Jammin / Hong Nor buggy and truggy domination in the RC Pro Final. This maybe a repeat or heard so many times in forums or website everywhere in the world. But i just wanna say that this brand do perform irregardless who at the transmitter. For this they do deserve the Truck and Buggy of the year. Thanks to Taylor James, Chad Bradley and of course to Jared Tebo on the Buggy win. even though he wasn't the Jammin / Hong Nor official sponsored driver.

Ok, i can see that someone from other brands wanna whack my head on this statement. Ok, the Kyosho and Mugen on a near 2nd & 3rd. Hahaha. Ok go ahead. smack my head!

How to setup your starter box?

How to setup your starter box? How? Ok, first GET YOUR OWN STARTER BOX!!! If u still using the pullstart thing.. well this post is not for you. hahahha. seriously. whats the point? well, actually u still can use starterbox.. as long as the flywheel access is there.

Ok, to cut thing short, here are a few tips and a must to get your ride start at the 1st push.

1. mark where your engine flywheel is in relation to the flywheel hole in the chassis.

2. Remove your engine, clutch, and exhaust from your vehicle so you have a clear view of the flywheel hole in your chassis. Leave the rest. the arms , shocks and turnbuckles.

3. Place your rolling chassis less the engine onto your starter box and line up the markings from step one around the flywheel hole with the rubber starter donut.

4. All starter boxes come with some sort of adjustable guide pegs that allow you to key your chassis onto the starter box. Now that your flywheel is lined up perfectly with the starter donut, you can mark where these guide pegs will mount onto the top of your starter box. The most common place is between the chassis and suspension arms on all four corners of the car, with two at the front and two at the rear.

5. Once you have the guide pegs in place, double check that the chassis fits slop-free into the guides and that the markings on the flywheel hole match with the rubber donut within the starter box. If there are slight differences in the alignment, now is the time to fix them. Move the guide pegs along the universal mounts, or slot the holes you drilled to provide the perfect alignment. Now install your engine, clutch, and exhaust system onto your chassis again.

6. Alignment is the key to a speedy working starter box, but there is more to starter perfection than just the fit of the chassis. If the switch that starts the electric starter motor is engaged too early or too late, there is still more setup to be done. If your starter motor switch connects too early, the mass of the vehicle simply sitting on the box may trigger the motor and cause the starter box to run continuously. If the switch connects too late, the compression of the engine may be too high for the electric starter motor to overcome from a static position. The ideal time for the switch to make contact and rotate the starter motor is after downward pressure has been placed on the vehicle on the starter box but just before the flywheel actually comes in contact with the rubber donut. The starter box switch is fully adjustable and adjustments are usually made simply with a small screw accessible externally. Read through your starter instructions to learn more about switch adjustments, then give yours a quick look to be sure it is connecting at exactly the correct time.

7. Now it's time to test the setup. With your starter box turned on, drop your vehicle into place and press down on it. If the previous steps were followed properly, the flywheel should be aligned perfectly with the rubber starter donut, the motor should switch on just before the engine flywheel makes contact with the rubber donut, and the engine should turn over immediately without having to move the chassis or tweak the pressure downward in any way.

Before we wrap up there is one final issue that needs attention, and that has to do with the direction of starter donut rotation. When you are looking at your engine from the front, and the first thing you see is the clutch assembly with the carburetor directly behind it, the direction of flywheel rotation is counter clockwise. Make sure to double check that your starter box is rotating your engine in the correct direction before you try to start it; nitro mills can start backwards ,and this usually doesn't give you the holeshot once the race start tone sounds.

"real story on why I didn't race the O'Donnell buggy is because we have been recieving alot of new parts to try out and test...we ran out of time and didn't want to go to the race not sure on our new parts and maybe have a failer because we were not able to properly test them. Truggy News: Malta National Truggy race

The 4th event of the Maltese nationals of Truggy races took place on 19th November, at the Bahrija offroad track.The championship is based on 4 races every event and again the X1-CRT took all wins in all races.We had new winners yesterday,Twanny Borg and Dylan Borg who drove their CRT's to the last second without any mistakes.Dylan made 2 mistakes in his last 2 laps but he recovered it.Ludvick Formosa had a clutch bell bearing failture on his second race exactly on the start.He switched back to his Back-up CRT RTR and took 4th place.John Bonello also won 1 race who this year he switched from the Lightning Pro to the X1-CRT.

Matthew Scicluna also had another win which he now took 3rd place in the championship.Malcolm Delia had some problems,which he ran out of fuel in both races, but he still dominates the 2nd place of the championship.

After seeing Jared Tebo put in a stunning drive to both TQ and Win the RC Pro series finals in Illinois, with a last minute choice of Jammin buggy, one can't help but ask questions of the future for the O'Donnell buggy.

Announced in January with huge hype of 2005's man of the year Jared Tebo being the only driver; things looked good. However as we have all read, seen and experienced its all gone a bit off the rails...

Admittedly a few poor results due to equipment can be expected for some time, however with such a big names and companies involved the milk soon turned slightly sour.

The first race - The Dirt Nitro Challenge went pretty well considering its first outing, qualifying in the C-Main Jared drove brilliantly and was up with the leaders in the Amain until he broke.
Qualified 4th in the C main / Finished 12th in the A main.

2006 Silver State - Definately building upon the previous race.
Qualified 10th / Finished 9th

2006 US Gas Champs - Fantastic in Qualifying but let down in the main.
Qualified 3rd / Finished 15th

2006 Summer Nitro Fest - Qualifying pretty decent in 5th, Mains were rained out

2006 ROAR Nats - Qualified Brilliantly in 2nd place behind Amezcua's new Losi. But Big questions were asked when it was clear he was running a Kyosho and not hiding it. However he finished pretty strongly in 8th out of 15 cars in the Amain.

So, the question remains what is going on with the O'Donnell buggy? the latest rumours have it to be released April 2007 - 15 months after first announcing it. And with Associated entering the 1/8 Buggy market soon, could there be some pressure for Jared to think twice about who he drives for in 2007?
One things for sure, their ain't nothing wrong with the driver....

Jared Tebo picked-up Taylor's Jammin X-1 back-up buggy to run in the R/C Pro finals. I quess Tebo, not being in the winners circle the last year, opt for the best buggy for the job. Tebo literally threw the car together just prior to qualifying and set the best combined times to take TQ honors. Taylor qualified third, Matt Gosch qualifies fifth, and Chad Bradley also getting in the A final.

Jammin X1-CRT Truggy Top Qualifier.

Chad Bradley and Taylor James dominate the Pro Truggy class at the R/C Pro Finals driving their Jammin X1-CRT Truggies. Chad and Taylor take all four rounds of qualifing splitting with two rounds each. Chad was awarded the top qualifier honors as his third best time was faster.

Taylor James driving his Jammin X1-CRT wins the A-main and the overall R/C Pro Series title. Chad Bradley had clutch bell bearing failure dropping him out.

I follow 90% of its style if not 100%... so i wanna share with you all.

"Each day you arrive at a race track to race your nitro engine there are many variables that change: air temp, air pressure, humidity and even minor differences from one gallon of fuel to the next. These differences can really affect your engine's tune and overall performance. Here's my general routine that I go through to tune my engine to get the best starting point to work from given the variables for the day. This routine can also be used if you decided to change nitro content or even a pipe or manifold at the track.

To start, raise the idle by closing the idle needle about ¼ turn from where the engine ran last. This will keep the engine from flaming out when running through the routine. Next, it's to the starter box to fire up the engine. Make sure to “blip” the throttle a few times to warm the engine up to a reasonable temperature. Open the top end needle a full turn and then slowly open up the carburetor to full throttle. Once you are at full throttle continue to open the top end needle until it nearly flames out. If it does flame out just close the top end needle about ¼ turn so you can restart the engine and continue with the process. The idea behind this is that you are sending a large quantity of fuel through the carburetor with very open needles, thus flushing out any dirt, residue or after run products from the engine. From here, close the top end needle (carburetor still at full throttle) until the clutch starts to engage and the wheels will spin. We will come back to this needle to finish tuning the engine for racing.

Setting the bottom end correctly can not only improve throttle response and bottom end power but it can also increase the consistency and reliability of your engine. To set the bottom end you should listen to the idle speed of the engine. Pay attention if it speeds up or slows down over a 10-20 second time frame. If the idle speed increases then you should open the bottom end needle. On the contrary, if the speed decreases then you should close the bottom end needle. Once you have achieved an idle that stays constant for about 1 minute you can begin to open the idle needle, which will lower the engines idle speed. Open the needle until the engine flames out and then close the idle needle about 1/8 of a turn and restart the engine. Your engine should idle for 45+ seconds before the idle will slow enough to flame out. This should yield a very low and consistent idle speed that will give you better fuel mileage, lower engine temperature and better operation of your clutch.

After tuning the bottom end and idle we are now back to the top end. The top end is usually best set out on the race track, but here's a way to get it close on the bench. Open the carburetor to full throttle (never for more than 2-3 seconds before returning to idle) listening to achieve a nice, clean sound. Take your time with this, it will greatly affect the life of your engine!! Once the engine sounds good, you have to make sure it isn't too lean. For a long straight, hard braking and then hard acceleration to the next corner out on the race track this is the best way to simulate that cycle on the bench. Open the carburetor to full throttle for 2-3 seconds, close the carburetor for 2-3 seconds and then back to full throttle for 2-3 seconds. Your engine should rev as nice on the 2 nd blast as it did on the first. If the engine hesitates then it is too lean and you need to open the top end needle. Remember, it's always better to start a little too rich vs. too lean!!

This routine should get your engine ready for the track each day before you race. While you are driving your car around the track remember to listen to the engine. Watching the smoke from the engine's exhaust is ok, but a lot of times it doesn't always give you a consistent reading of your engines tune. Different fuel mixtures (different oils or oil percentages) don't always yield the same smoke so it's important to have another gauge such as throttle feel, sound, as well as a temperature probe are all good ways to gauge your engines performance. Be patient and have fun!!"

"The reasoning behind this break-in procedure is that there is always a large volume of fuel flowing through the engine. Large volume of fuel means plenty of oil and lubrication for the break in process. This also helps flush out any burrs or small pieces of material that may have been left over from the manufacturing of the engine. Also, the engine has a load placed on it by trying to cycle all of the fuel through it – somewhat similar to the load that you will put on it out on the track when you try to power your car around the track. Last, the engine is broke in with rpm – if you break the engine in at idle then you will not be seating the piston, sleeve, and connecting rod at anywhere near the rpm that it will have to be ready for out on the race track."

We came as Team Kota Kinabalu and others came as far as Singapore, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Sibu Sarawak.

STS engine D28M / 21B

This is the engine I won the O'Donnell Off-road Championship with. What is interesting is that through a broken diff that was binding the drive train at a big race, I had what seemed like no power, so I kept telling my pit man to lean it out ( main event ) and he did so... until it got very hot indeed. It got up to over 400 degrees and was still running well. We thought it would have trashed the engine but we were wrong. With NO rebuild at all, that is the very same motor that won the O'Donnell. Now that same motor has won AGAIN, the RD Logics Off-road Championships in the Expert Truggy Class. These motors are so well made and such quality it is just amazing.

Temperature Guideline

When the air temp. is lower than 5C,stay at home.
When the air temp. is 5~15C (41~59F) Keep the engine temp around 80C(176F)
When the air temp. is 15~25C(59~77F) Keep the engine temp around 100C(212F)
When the air temp. is 25~35C (77~95F) Keep the engine temp around 120C(248F)
When the air temp. is more than 35C (95F) Keep the engine temp around 140C(284F)

If your engine works just fine and you feel the power is enough,you don't need to worry about the shim's setting. All STS engine shimmed for 30% nitro,if you are running 20% or 15%,you may need to remove some shims for getting the most power.

Pullstart problem

This is what Dino said in the sts .28 rctech forum regarding how to pullstart.
Page 7, post #209.

We talk about the bleeding blisters first!
when you operate the pull-start system,there are some tips.

1)Before you start the engine,pull the line out fully. Then you know the total length of the line. Don't over pull it out! With a strong arm you will damage the pull-start system.

2)Why you got some bleeding blisters is because your finger touch the heat sink(cooling head). So it is important that you don't need to pull the starter from the start. You can pull the starter around 10cm out slowly,then just start to pull the starter between 10cm to 40cm distance continuous. Then your finger or hand should not touch the heat sink.

3)ok let us try to start the engine. Use your knee press on the tyres to fix your monster truck. Right hand pull the starter line out around 10cm. Left hand finger block the pipe then pull the starter line several times. Make sure the fuel be pumped into the carburetor. It not,that means the LSN is too lean or even cut the fuel supply at idle position already. Or the carb is close fully and no air bypass.

4)Put on the igniter and make sure the idle opened. Start to pull the starter between 10cm to 40cm distance continuous. After several time pulling,the engine should be started.

5)If it still not work,it most have some thing wrong. Stop to keep on trying. Try to find anything wrong. Check if the plug is fine and the igniter battery. Check if the fuel enter the carb already. Check if the idle is open enough. If you can see a lot of fuel flow out from the tuned pipe,that means the HSN is too rich.

6)After the engine started,don't loosen your hand suddenly and let the starter line return very fast. That is not cool! It may snap the return spring. You should let the inner spring return the line slowly.

Above process is what I start mine D28M. Hope you understand my poor english. For you information..

Dino advice to newbie:

It is not because of the small gears,it is because our engine has too big compression. It may happen when your engine use not more than one gallon of fuel. When the first gallon,the compression is too big. Everytime you start the engine,you need to loosen the grow plug a little. About half turn is enough. Then try to start the engine. Once the engine is started,tighten the plug soon. I'm sorry because we want to produce a race level pull start engine,so we give you the race level piston/sleeve set. We want your engine lasting longer under serious situation. But it do make the engine hard to start no matter pull-start or roto-start. Remember to loosen the plug would help. We just don't want to produce RTR level engine,it's not our style. You can check your engine,when you remove the plug it is very smooth. Once the plug installed it is unbelievable tight! It is a standard of a race engine. Maybe we should give you more shims but a lot of people don't know they need to remove shims after break-in....that's why we don't give you extra shims lately...but the gears issue pop-out.... What is Radio Control Offroad?

Well, its a sport or may i say Big Boys Toy Hobby. Hahaha. Doing it offroad style. Meaning getting dirty with sand, stone, tree trunk, roots poking out and even jump into pool of mud. its totally opposite of clean asphalt road or track.

As u can see from the left ... mostly guys race like this. Big Boys. except one maybe... small boy fro thailand, hahaha. It was taken at the recent HPC 2nd Annual race.

The racers drives or in other word, control their vehicle using the radio controller with PCM, FM or AM tranmission on the driverstand, high above the ground.

Now what is this all about? Not another forum. oh please. My english is not good, so just forgive me if u dont understand. This is just a place to share information, discussion or any new tips for us Radio Control (R/C) driver.

Let me start by sharing my ride. I have two most awesome kits in 1:8 class. The buggy and the Truggy. Yes truggy means Truck plus Buggy kind of thing. Its very popular in USA and in Asia its just catching up. I also have HPI Savage 25 of which i modded to make it a racing king.
